Why the TIM Journey Matters

Helping every classroom get more from its technology.

What it is

The TIM Journey is a self-paced online program that helps teachers use classroom technology so students do more of the thinking. Teachers move through it on their own time, in short steps that fit a planning period.

Where it comes from

It is built on the Technology Integration Matrix (TIM), developed by the Florida Center for Instructional Technology at the University of South Florida. The TIM describes five levels of classroom technology use, growing from a teacher using a tool to present, all the way to students using it to create, solve problems, and work together.

How it works

Teachers begin by seeing where their own teaching already stands. They then explore real classroom examples at every level and plan one small, practical change for their own students. Examples match each teacher’s grade level and subject, from kindergarten to career and technical classes.

Why it matters

  • A stronger return on technology spending. Devices and software become tools for student thinking, collaboration, and creativity.
  • Growth that respects teachers. Each teacher starts where they are and moves one step at a time. Reflections stay private, and teachers choose what to share with a coach.
  • Progress leaders can see. District leaders can see who is moving through the program and who has completed it.
  • Built for schools. It holds no student data, and teachers sign in with their school email.

The goal

Classrooms where students are more active, more engaged, and better prepared for the world they are growing up in.

The Technology Integration Matrix

Five characteristics of meaningful learning, each a journey from Entry to Transformation. Not a grid to fill — a map of where a lesson can go.
